Apex Park Trails or, what to do while your van is in the shop

One of the benefits of having a house on wheels[and kinda the point of the whole thing] is that when I drive somewhere new my bikes come with me.  This morning I drove to Golden, Colorado to have some service done to my Sprinter van.  So, while the mechanics worked on removing a broken glow-plug, I worked on getting in a ride.

While the directions I wrote down last night didn’t prevent me from getting a little lost as I searched for the trail-head, the well marked Apex Park Trails were easy to navigate.  Lots of steep, technical, switch-back climbs with plenty of fun and equally technical descents; miles of fast rolling single-track within the tree cover and tremendous views of Golden and Denver below and beyond made it a very worthwhile trip.

Stopping for a tasty burrito on my way back to the garage, I chatted with fellow burrito fan Jameson who told me of other trails that were equally worth the visit.  If I have to stay the night to have the work finished on the van tomorrow, I’ll be sure to check out the Chimney Gulch trails.  Otherwise, I’ve got something to look forward to the next time I pass through Golden.
