Welcome to Denver

After a scant four hours sleep, Bevin and I were in the car and on the road, driving to Buffalo International Airport for a 7am flight to Denver, Colorado.  All went well until we arrived at the car rental place where Bevin realised he’d left his driver’s licence back in Canada; the car reservation was in his name. We also learned that they require proof of auto insurance; insurance provided through the Visa card would not suffice.  Feeling bad for our misfortune, the kind lady at E-Z Car Rental gave us a free upgrade; I am now driving us around in a Volvo XC90.  Bling!

Taking a trip into down-town Denver, we decided to park the car and go on a bit of a walking tour.  We started at the REI flagship store where we picked up a few things.  As we left, we met Mykal and Nico; two cycle-tourers who were just starting their trek to New Mexico.  She was riding this home-made bamboo bike!!

Soon enough we found ourselves at the first of many breweries we would visit during our Colorado trip.  Though my vice may be coffee, Bevin has a penchant for craft beers.  After the Denver Brewing Co., where Bevin had the finest of fine IPA, the Incredible Pedal, we took a stroll and grabbed an iced coffee at Ink Coffee.  As we walked, we came upon a flash-mob dancing to the Bruno Mars song, Marry You.  And, if you can believe it, one of the guys dancing with this mob proposed to his girlfriend.  She said yes.  Very sweet.

From there we wandered about returning through Commons Park.  Walking barefoot in the South Platte River, we then came across a bunch of skaters filming successful attempts at kick-flipping a four-stair.  Back in the car, we were heading to our destination city, Boulder.
Nico’s home-made bamboo touring bike; bad-ass!
