Monday afternoon I flew from Toronto to Vancouver, Washington, USofA, where I spent a few days getting some tattoo work done. Resuming travel by air, I am now in El Paso, Texas and tomorrow morning will take the train to Alpine where the friend of a friend will kindly drive me to that most sacred of places, Terlingua. And, with any luck, UPS will deliver my mountain-bike, Isabelle, to me on Tuesday.
When I arrived in Terlingua in February, I quickly understood why my dear friends Rick and Kt have been spending winters here for the past 15 years. The beauty of the barren desert, the magnificence of the mountains, the kindness of the people are impossible to deny. And so, when it came time to decide how and where I would spend the winter, there was no debate; I was heading back to the desert, a place that truly has captured my heart.
So, for the next three months, I will be living in a trailer, mountain-biking daily and loving life with some very dear people. And yes, I will be sure to keep the blog updated regularly with reports of my adventures and pictures of the beauty that is the desert.
