Ride to the Basin

For the past month or more I’ve been super busy, particularly with the EMT course.  With my departure from this desert paradise looming, I have many other chores that need tending to.  As such, my riding recently has been limited to short, brisk rides of just a couple hours.  Nothing grand, just enough to keep me sane.  That was until a bit over a week ago[sorry for the delay in posting] when local frenchman, Manu, and I rode from town to the Chisos Basin.

From the Cottonwood store to the Basin and back is about 54miles.  But, that includes about 3,000 of climbing to reach the Basin.  That climb, particularly the steep switchbacks to the pass, made my legs ache and my heart pump.  Just what I needed.  Once in the Basin, Manu and I enjoyed a cold beer as we sat back and relaxed, looking out the “Window” towards home.

Soon enough, the descending took us home, though, so too did the headwinds! As we left the Park boundaries, we even came across a diamond-back rattle-snake sunning itself on the road.  We did not get too close, however, as it’s curled up position and rattling tail told us to stay back.

All in all, a wonderful ride, thanks Manu!
