Nevada City; The Woods Welcomes

Heading into the mountains, destination Nevada City[which is actually in California], we were a little concerned we might have to deal with some snow.  In fact, we soon came across a check-point where the installation of tire chains was mandatory.  Within a few minutes we had the chains on and were back on the road.  What a waste!  The snow was barely worth mentioning, certainly not worthy of chains.  Oh well, after several miles we took them off and were soon deep in the woods.  It was beautiful.  Lush green forest, houses nestled deep within the trees, towns lit up for the holidays.

In Nevada City we enjoyed the very generous hospitality of Don and Sarah, dear old friends of Reilly’s.  The four of us plus their adorable daughter, Abigail, went into town for dinner.  There, we found the town was abuzz with Victorian Christmas.  Folks were dressed in period costumes, vendors were out selling mulled wine, roasted chestnuts, strong coffee and a myriad other goodies.  It sure was good to be back in the woods, with great folks, enjoying excellent food.
