A Few Days in the Rain

Friday morning it was raining, hard.  It was also very windy and cold, about 10deg/cel.  Regardless, I was on the bike at 5:32am, heading out for a 90km ride, which I completed in a hair under 3hours.  It was a miserable day to ride and by the time the ride was over–heck, even just 30mins into the ride–I was soaked to the bone. I was warm, but wet.  Motorists went about their routine, heading towards work, and surely shaking their heads at the fool on the Cervelo at such an ungodly hour.  For sure there were no other cyclists or runners out this morning, unlike most days where the fit are hittin’ the pavement.  Both despite and because of the weather, it was a great ride and I was very pleased with myself for having done it.

Today I’m about to leave the house to do pretty much the same 90km loop.  However, this time, that will be just the beginning of my ride.  It is my intention to roll past the bike shop at 9am to see if any others have braved the weather–11deg/cel, light wind, light rain–for the Club’s Sunday Long Ride.  We, or maybe just I, will do about 100-110kms, which will give me about 200kms for the day.  From there, I’ll continue on for another 50 or so kms.  Training for June 24th’s 322km Hairshirt, it is my goal today to ride 250kms, regardless of the weather conditions.
