Mountain-biking, baby!

Our first ride of the trip came Tuesday late afternoon after we arrived in Salida.  Waiting out some ominous looking clouds, we were soon riding the trails of S Mountain. Starting at 5:30pm, we knew we’d run out of light by 7:30pm so we set our turn-around-time for 6:40pm.   Rolling out of the lane-way of the house we’d call home while in Salida, we were on the trails within 3mins.

Narrow yet fast sections of rocky/hard-pack single-track; a couple sandy corners and loose creek-beds plus a few very technical sections to keep you really paying attention.  Climbing up that hill rewarded us with a pretty dividend, paid in downhill dollars.  We stopped a couple of times to take in the stunning sun-set views and the shear magnitude of this alpine paradise.
