Bike-packing Lessons

Two weeks ago I went bike-packing up Leadville-way.  While I had a great time, I did also learn a few things about my bike-packing kit that require attention.  Here they are:

–my sleeping roll–which includes bivy-sack, sleeping pad and sleeping bag–slides side-to-side within the handlebar bag, which is more of a sleeve with buckles.  While I was able to use the various straps and buckles to lash it down, I think some adhesive velcro might remedy this.

–need to get a lighter-weight tarp and learn better techniques for it’s use.

–thinking I could use a pair of super-light-weight rain pants

–need to better distribute food on the bike for easy-access while riding

–gotta remember to charge the Garmin cycle-computer at every opportunity, like in restaurants while eating.

–time to purchase a JetBoil and a foldable plastic bowl.

–think I need a warmer sleeping bag.  It was fine during this trip, but won’t be for anything nearing freezing temps.
