What Hurricane?

You know, sometimes I really should heed the advice of those more learned than myself.  Last night I chatted with my friend Peter who commented that since the wind, rain and cold temps were now upon us, it was time to pack it in and call the season over.  Not wanting to submit so easily to mother nature and the wrath of Hurricane Sandy, I got up this morning and went out for a two hour ride.

Well, I had hoped it would be a two hour ride, however, after just 40 mins I knew I wanted nothing more than to pack it all in, to call it quits, to go home, to have a warm shower and get back under the covers.  With the rain falling hard and the temperature a balmy 3.5c I soon found I was under-dressed [“there is no such thing as bad weather, just inappropriate clothing”] for the conditions and unable to generate heat via exercise.   Instead, I realised that Peter was right; I should have stayed at home.  Thirty minutes later I was in the shower, suffering the pain of cold hands under warm water.

Sure, I felt a little deflated for having given up but there was no way I could have continued riding.  But hey, who really knows what is truly good or bad, right?  Although it was a short ride, I still got out there when no-body else would [except for that lady on the tri-bike] and learned a bit of a lesson; if there is nobody else on the road, maybe I should reconsider why I am.  Thanks Peter.
