The End of Summer?

Labour Day Weekend; the North American tradition of debauchery before school resumes and the summer’s end is official, even if the warm and humid weather continues.  Working Friday and Saturday, I spent both evenings volunteering with St John Ambulance at the Burlington Ribfest.  Basically, a down-town park full of folks merrily gettin’ drunk while eating thousands of fatty calories under the hot sun; perfect place for a vegetarian non-drinker to hang out.

Sunday morning I drove a rental car to the Ganaraska Forest to pre-ride[again] the 60km loop of what will be the 100km race on Saturday, September 15th; Paul’s Dirty Enduro.  Working steady and strong, but not going nuts, and with about 10mins of breaks, I finished in 4hrs 10mins.  While I thought I had beaten last year’s race time for 20mins, I was actually 40mins slower.  This does not bode well.  Showered and packed, I drove back to Toronto where I spent the afternoon with friends before heading out to see hip-hop legends, Public Enemy.
Monday I had brunch with Liz before deciding, on a whim, to head to the County for the afternoon.  I had a rental car at my disposal and it was just too nice a day to spend back at home.  Although I was scheduled to work Tuesday morning, I made my way down and in time for a 40km road ride.  Through a text message exchange with my boss, Jeff, I was given Tuesday off work!  I spent that rainy Tuesday tinkering with my bikes, eating pastries and drinking coffee.
Wednesday morning I was on the road at 4:07am, driving back to Burlington where I had a few errands to run before returning the rental car and heading to work for 10am.  Yup, a Labour Day long weekend well spent.  What did you do?
