Logging Roads or, getting ready for Hellracer 250

This coming Saturday I will be participating in a gruelling 250km race that starts and finishes in Pemberton, BC; the Hellracer 250. There is no support, there is no timer. There’s no website, or Facebook page or event promotion. I only found out cuz I started asking questions. 150kms on pavement, 100kms on gravel, nearly 5,000m of climbing was the answer I received. Most people do it in teams with some sort of support van. I will be riding solo and self-supported.

To prepare for this hellish race, I’ve been off the mountain-bike as I focus on climbing gravel roads. Fortunately, there are myriad options of endless logging roads to chose from. And, they offer incredible views if you’re willing to suffer up those soul-crushing climbs. Since I am so willing, here are a few pics from some of the rides I’ve enjoyed over the past couple weeks.

Got wood? This is where I took the left fork to explore a fire-break, as suggested by the logger I met early in the day.

Not gravel, I know, but a pretty picture of Shirin on the summer solstice.
