Eating Pie in Portland

Typing these words, I am sitting at Portland International Airport[PDX], waiting for my flight back to Toronto which, is delayed by 90mins. With FREE wifi at my fingertips–normally at airports you’ve gotta pay–I thought to myself “what a great opportunity to update the blog.”

The reason for my visit to Portland this weekend was to get my right arm further tattooed by my friend Joey Burnz; tattoo genius and all around great guy. While here, I stayed with my friend Bobby and his room-mates Dave and Erin. I also met fellow couch-surfer, Kelvin, in town from Hawaii for an academic conference. While in Portland, I ate well, drank plenty of excellent coffee, went out for pie[twice!] and did a bit of urban farming, all while making new friends. Yup, Portland is one heckuva great city. Except maybe for the incessant rain…

For the past week or so I’ve been trying to draft a posting reflecting generally on my time spent touring the US Pacific coast and south-west States. The places I’ve been, the people I’ve met; the things I’ve seen, the moments I’ll never forget; so much has happened these last 5 1/2 months. Thinking about what to say in such a synopsis, it occurred to me that I’d already once answered the question “what is it like in America.”

In mid-January, I received that exact question from one of Mr. Cyr’s students. The efficiency and functionality of the medicine is tadalafil cheapest price damn high. Buying medicine online unica-web.com discount online viagra is as simple as shopping anything from any online shopping site. If they do not work, you order levitra may have to bring to your local DMV workplace to get your driver’s license: Your original certificate or a certified copy of your prescription to them in order that the drug to be filled. Upset and moody can cause premature ovarian online buy viagra failure and it should get fix up as early as possible. While I still had many miles to ride before my desert destination, I responded with an answer that still holds valid today. So, with thanks to Anthony for asking such a great question, here was my reply:

Hello Anthony,

Thanks again for your question; a very difficult one to answer. First, let me say that I am enjoying my time here in the United States very much. The people I meet are very kind and helpful and, are always interested in my touring. Second, having ridden from the top to the bottom of the west coast, I’ve seen many different parts of the country, each with their own geography and climate. None is better than the other; they are each a pleasure to experience.

That said, America is a place of huge contradictions. There is so much money and wealth but, there is also immense poverty. While the people have been great to me, racism and hate can be seen everywhere. Americans are very proud people who love their country very much, so it saddens me to see how poorly the land and environment is treated. So, I guess what I’m trying to say, is that I am enjoying my time here in the US, but part of that reason is the education I am receiving as I see the country and meet it’s people.

One thing is for sure; I am so happy to have spent these past few months here and am looking forward to the next couple of months. I hope that answers your question.

Your friend,

Alex

  9. Wow, from all the comments it seems a lot of people in Mr Cyr’s 4/c class really like pie.

You all would have enjoyed the pie at this restaurant very much. The slice in the picture is an apple pie, one of several varieties they have. My friends and I also tried a pecan, raspberry, lemon, chocolate-cream and other tasty pies. We all shared so we could each taste every one.

  10. I wish I was there with you. I think I would have loved every kind of pie you named. Which was your favourite or did you love them all?
